Leagues/Programs

Woodland Hills Youth Soccer Association (WHYSA) is happy to offer recreational ("in-house" and limited travel) and competitive (travel) soccer programs for children in U4 (under four years of age) through U19 (under nineteen) age groups. All of our programs provide players with the opportunity to get outside, make some friends, and burn off some energy--all while experiencing everything that the beautiful game has to offer.

We play two separate sessions each year; one in the Fall and one in the Spring. However, player registrations from Fall carries over to the Spring, with no need to re-register in the Spring. Players in U16+ age groups play in the spring only so as not to conflict with HS soccer programs. Program descriptions are below, to help families understand the age group in which their child will play according to their year of birth. For additional help, see our Frequently Asked Questions or contact us at: [email protected].

Under 4 Co-ed ''Tykes & Spikes''

A fun and unique program designed for 2- and 3-year-olds and their parents/guardians to introduce soccer through creative and imaginative activities. At least one parent/guardian is encouraged to participate in the fun alongside their little tyke in this exciting six-week program.

  • Tennis shoes are all your little tyke needs to participate.
  • T-shirts provided.
  • Sign up via our usual registration process.

Under 6 Co-ed

All U6 games are played on Saturday mornings at Forest Hills Park. There is no additional practice during the week for the U6 Division. “Games” consist of 30 minutes of practice followed by a 30-minute game. Most games are 4v4 (no goalies) which gives each child an opportunity to participate, contribute, and become an integral part of their team. The U6 schedule is approximately nine weeks in the Fall and nine weeks in the Spring.

Requirements:

  • Shin guards – For safety reasons, children can’t play if they don’t have shin guards.
  • Size 3 soccer ball
  • Soccer cleats – Soccer cleats are not required but are recommended. Baseball shoes are not allowed since they have a toe cleat that can seriously injure other players.
  • Water
  • Woodland Hills Youth Soccer Association uniform – Most uniforms can be purchased once and worn for multiple seasons.

Under 8 Co-ed

All U8 games are played on Saturday mornings at Forest Hills Park. Most games are 5v5, plus the addition of a goalie. There is an additional practice during the week for the U8 Division. The U8 schedule is approximately nine weeks in the Fall and nine weeks in the Spring.

At the U10 age, registration is by gender. Games are played on Saturdays against neighboring communities such as Monroeville, Murrysville, and Plum. All U10 home games are played at Wilkins Elementary STEAM Academy in Wilkins Township. The U10 schedule is approximately nine weeks in the Fall and approximately nine weeks in the Spring.  There is additional practice during the week (generally two practice sessions lasting 60-90 minutes each). Uniforms (jerseys and socks) are provided as part of the registration fee. Players/Families are responsible for providing their own solid-color black shorts.

Under 12 Boys & Girls Travel

Registration for U12 Travel is by gender. U12 teams play games on Sunday afternoons against teams from clubs within about an hour of the eastern part of Pittsburgh. Home games and practices are at Wilkins Elementary STEAM Academy in Wilkins Township. Away games may be against relatively nearby clubs such as Monroeville, Murrysville, or Plum, but may include games against teams as far away as Connellsville or Indiana, PA.

The U12 travel league is more competitive soccer; where scores and standings are recorded. Uniforms (jerseys and socks) are provided as part of the registration fee. Players/Families are responsible for providing their own solid-color black shorts.

Requirements:

  • Shin guards – For safety reasons, children can’t play if they don’t have shin guards.

Under 14 or Under 15 Travel

This is a competitive option and offers a bigger challenge to those players who desire one. Games are on Sunday afternoons, scores and standings are kept, and various levels of competition (Divisions 4, 5, and 6) are provided by PA West Soccer

Teams practice two times per week at Woodland Hills Junior / Senior High School and also play home games there. The travel radius is about a one-hour drive. Away games may include nearby clubs such as Monroeville, Murrysville, or Plum, but may include games against teams as far away as Kiski, Connellsville, Somerset, or Indiana, PA. Teams play a seven or eight-game schedule in the Fall and Spring.

Travel teams have the option of participating in the PA West Soccer Open Tournament hosted on a weekend in June at Edinboro University.

Under 12 and Under 14 Recreational (Limited Travel)

These are recreational U-12 and U-14 teams that are more instructional in nature and geared towards the less competitive player, with few (if any) travel players on the teams. The league is technically co-ed and can be considered a natural extension of how U-10 is organized. At WHYSA we sometimes refer to these teams as the "Eagles".

Players practice two times per week at Wilkins Elementary STEAM Academy in Wilkins Township and also play their home games there on Saturday afternoons. They play an eight-game schedule in the Fall and Spring against teams from neighboring communities like Plum, Monroeville, and Jeannette. Standings are not kept, and scores are not remembered. Teams play small-sided games (6v6) on a U-10-sized field.

Under 19 Boys and Under 19 Girls Travel (Spring only)

This competitive community program is one of the final phases of development within WHYSA, offering the serious soccer player the opportunity to continue to advance their skills and understanding of the game. We also aim to continue to build the player's love and enjoyment of the game. Teams practice at least two times per week. Opponents typically include Somerset, Greensburg, Norwin, Penn Trafford, Laurel Highland, Yough, and Loyalhanna. Home games are played at Woodland Hills High School. Offered in the Spring only so as not to interfere with Fall high school soccer.
