Woodland Hills Youth Soccer Association

Our Leagues

Woodland Hills Youth Soccer Association is happy to offer a recreational (in-house), as as well as competitive travel soccer programs for children in the U6, U8, U10, U12, U14, and U18 age classifications. All of our leagues provide players with the opportunity to get outside, make some friends, and burn off some energy, all while experiencing everything that the beautiful game has to offer.

We play 2 separate seasons, one in the fall and one in the spring. Rules for each age classification are below as well as an age chart to help you determine what age classification your child qualifies for. To better help you, here are some frequently asked questions.  If you have any additional questions please feel free to contact us at [email protected]

UNDER 6 COED

All U-6 games are played on Saturday mornings at Forest Hills Park. There is no additional practice during the week for the U-6 Division.

“Games” consist of 30 minutes of practice, followed by a 30 minute game.

Most games are 4-vs-4 (no goalies) which gives each child an opportunity to participate, contribute, and become an integral part of their team.

The U-6 schedule consists of 9 weeks in the fall, then 9 weeks the following spring

All players need to have:

  • Shinguards. For safety reasons, children will not be allowed to participate if they don’t have shinguards.
  • A soccer ball. U-6s use size 3 soccer balls extensively in practice.
  • Soccer shoes are not required, but are recommended. Baseball shoes are not allowed since they have a toe cleat that can seriously injure other players.
  • Water. It’s important for everyone to stay hydrated, especially children.
  • A Woodland Hills uniform. Most uniforms can be purchased once and then worn for multiple seasons.

UNDER 12 BOYS

The U-12 Boys program plays games on Sunday afternoons against teams from clubs within about an hour of the eastern part of Pittsburgh.

The U-12 league is competitive travel soccer; we do keep scores and standings.

Home games (and practices) are at Wilkins Elementary in Wilkins Township. Away games may be against relatively nearby clubs such as Monroeville, Murrysville, or Plum, but may include games against teams as far away as Connellsville or Indiana, PA.

Uniforms (shirts, shorts, and socks) are provided as part of the registration fee.

As with all travel teams, players must be registered by July 15th to be sure to get a spot on a team.

For the last couple of years we have been able to field multiple U-12 Boys teams, in division 5 and division 6. Player evaluation sessions are run over the summer so that we can properly assign boys to the team that best suits their abilities.  Registered players will be notified as to the time and place of these sessions. We cannot guarantee that we will be able to honor requests for specific coaches or to be placed on specific teams.

UNDER 12 GIRLS

The U-12 Girls program plays games on Sunday afternoons against teams from clubs within about an hour of the eastern part of Pittsburgh.

The U-12 league is competitive travel soccer; we do keep scores and standings.

Home games and practices (typically two/week) are held at Wilkins Elementary. Away games may be against relatively nearby clubs such as Monroeville, Murrysville, or Plum, but may include games against teams as far away as Kiski, Connellsville, Greensburg, or Indiana, PA.

Uniforms (shirts, shorts, and socks) are provided as part of the registration fee.

As with all travel teams, players must be registered by July 15th to be sure to get a spot on a team.

For the last couple of years we have only fielded one division 6 team and there are no try-outs. However, if player number exceeds the allowed number of roster spots, we may need to form multiple teams or hold player evaluation sessions. If necessary, these will be held over the summer, prior to the start of the season, so that we can properly assign players to the teams that best suits their abilities. Registered players will be notified as to the time and place of these sessions. We cannot guarantee that we will be able to honor requests for specific coaches or to be placed on specific teams.

U14 (or U15) Travel Soccer

This is a competitive option and offers a bigger challenge to those players who desire one.

Games are on Sunday afternoons, scores/standings are kept, and various levels of competition (Divisions 4, 5, & 6) are provided by PA West Soccer.

Teams practice 2 times per week at Woodland Hills High School (Tues & Thurs) and also play their home games there. The travel radius is nothing more than a one-hour drive. Away games may include nearby clubs such as Monroeville, Murrysville, or Plum, but may include games against teams as far away as Kiski, Connellsville, Somerset, or Indiana, PA. Teams play a 7 or 8-game schedule in the fall and spring.  Travel teams have the option of participating in the Edinboro Open tournament, hosted on a weekend in June at Edinboro University.

U14 RECREATIONAL SOCCER (LIMITED TRAVEL)

This is a recreational U14 team that is more instructional in nature and geared towards the less competitive player, with few (if any) travel players on the teams. The league is technically co-ed, and can be considered a natural extension of how U10 is organized.

Players practice 2 times per week at Wilkins Primary School (Mon & Thurs), and also play their home games there on Saturday afternoons. They play an 8-game schedule in the fall and spring against teams like Plum, Monroeville, and Jeannette. Standings are not kept and scores are not remembered. Teams play small-sided games (6v6) on a U10-sized field.
